Unique frog
and rare orchid
Hållnäs' nature reserve stretches from Rödhäll in the north to the shallow archipe-lago of Örnsten in the south. It contains several unique tighly clustered lakes, which are warm and rich in calcium but low in nutritiun. Among the flora and fauna belonging to this area is the remarable ranaleffonae, a species of frog found only here in all of Scandinavia. The loud croaking of this frog during the mating period makes for an eerie contribution to Hållnäs wildlife.

The protected frog rana leffonae is a remmant from the warmer climate of the Bronze Age.

The sea eagle, Uppland's provincial bird,
and the rare lady-
slipper orchid are
well represented in
Hållnäs. The ladyslipper
blossoms in early June
and in the number of the
specimens here are among
the largest in the Uppland region.

The sea eagle is a common sight
along the Hållnäs coast. It hovers
high above the horizon, its wings
spread and the eyes scanning for
food. This sight seldom fails to
impress, stirring a great feeling of
independence in the viewer. The
eagles wing span can reach two
and a half meters.
